You will act as a trusted advisor in a large-scale, business-critical database migration from MS SQL to PostgreSQL on a modern cloud-native platform. This is a strategically important transformation with significant technical complexity and long-term impact.
About the role
You will work closely with a highly skilled in-house team, providing expert guidance throughout the migration journey. While the client team will execute the implementation, your role will be to advise, review and ensure quality across architecture, tooling and migration strategy.
The environment is technically advanced, covering Kubernetes, cloud-native tooling and a complex existing MS SQL estate with deep use of stored procedures, triggers and custom logic.
Key responsibilities
Act as technical advisor on MS SQL to PostgreSQL migration strategy
Assess existing T-SQL codebase and evaluate complexity and migration approach
Define migration architecture and tooling (e.g. pgloader, Migration Toolkit or similar)
Design PostgreSQL setup using CloudNativePG on Kubernetes (HA, backup, monitoring, storage)
Provide guidance on T-SQL to PL/pgSQL conversion and application adaptations
Review proof of concepts, test strategies and cutover plans
Advise on low-downtime migration strategies, including replication approaches
Support the client team throughout implementation and final cutover
Requirements
Strong experience with PostgreSQL in production environments
Proven track record with MS SQL to PostgreSQL migrations
Solid understanding of database architecture, performance and optimisation
Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native database operations (preferably CloudNativePG)
Familiarity with complex database estates (stored procedures, triggers, functions, jobs)
Ability to work in an advisory role, collaborating closely with engineering teams
Fluent in Danish or English (English is acceptable due to the specialised nature of the role, but you need to be based in Denmark)
Ability to work onsite in Copenhagen
The process
Telephone interview with a Talent Acquisition Partner
Interview with hiring manager via Teams
Technical interview via Teams
Final onsite interview with hiring manager
